Jamila Josephine Mumo (F)

Ms. Josephine Mumo is a founding member of Stara Peace Women Organization and has been instrumental in the implementation of the organization’s programs since 2000. Her passion and dedication towards caring for children from challenging backgrounds as well as girl child & women empowerment have earned her recognitions with organizations such as the United Nation, for her leadership and commitment in difficulty circumstances of Kenya Nairobi to build a better life for orphaned and volunteer children in Kibera Slum. Ms. Josephine has undertaken numerous training programs on Child protection, child nutrition, and business management which have equipped her with strong skills and knowledge on the management of children oriented projects. She is also a trained NLP business practitioner.

Farida Kamene (F)

Ms. Farida Kamene is the third founding member of Stara Peace Women Organization. At the Organization’s registration in 2000, she had a leading role in the implementation of home based care program for HIV patients. Recently, she has also assumed role in community engagement through which she obtains feedback from beneficiaries on behalf of the organization to and also carries out consultative forums with members of the community in order to make assist the organization in coming up with inclusive programs. Her good standing with the Kibera community has earned the organization favorable publicity over the years; she is also experienced in counselling victims of gender-based violence.

Mariam Abdu (F)

Ms. Mariam Abdu is one of the three co-founders of Stara peace women organization. Since the formation of the organization in 2000, she has played a key role in the implementation of sanitation projects by the organization which have helped to restore the environmental hygiene in the slum areas where the organization operates. Currently, she oversees farming activities in a greenhouse project which produces food that partly feeds pupils at Stara Rescue Centre and School.She also participates in the day to day running of the Stara Biogas project through which human waste is used to produce electricity and organic fertilizer.

Roger Cottier (M)

Mr. Roger Cottier has been the main funder of Stara Swiss Association since 2009, and is acting as its president. Roger graduated from ETH in Zurich in architecture in 1972, and has subsequently been active as an architect, including running his own architectural studio since 1991. He has developed and built numerous multi-residential and commercial properties across different regions in Switzerland.

Ms. Ines Islamshah is a liaison officer and development consultant at the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), Nairobi Office. In her work at SDC, she has partnered with organizations such as UN-Habitat, The World bank, and ICIPE on several development projects. She has been a board member of Stara Peace Women Organization since 2015, and has made significant contributions to the policy formulation which has helped the organization to align itself better with the sustainable development goals that are within the Organization’s objectives.

Dr. Philip Cottier is an investor and a philanthropist in support of many social courses which work towards girl child empowerment. He has had an illustrious career in financial markets as a consultant, investor and manager at a number of companies such as L1 Digital, Crypto Finance, and Bellegard Capital. He has been a Stara Peace Women Organization Board since 2015 and he has made immeasurable contributions towards the organization’s resource mobilization efforts.

Fiona (Farha) Kirubi

Farha Kirubi is an angel investor and philanthropist who works with a portfolio of tech startups. Her education and career span multiple cities, including Dubai, London, Boston, California, Kuala Lumpur, and Khartoum, giving her a global perspective. Farha has studied at renowned institutions such as Harvard and INCEIF and is passionate about financial literacy and access. Since the early 2000s, she has played a pivitol role supporting Stara Peace Women Organization and joined the board in 2019. She continues to significantly support the children and the Muslim pupils’ welfare programs at Stara Rescue Centre and School. Additionally, she sits on multiple boards, leveraging her expertise to drive impactful initiatives. Farha's interests also extends to developing tech skills for women and promoting mental health wellness.

Mr. Josiah Omoto is the managing trustee of Umande Trust, an NGO whose key objective is to conserve the environment and fight climate change through advocating for use of clean energy. He has collaborated with several institutions including Stanford University in carrying out environmental restoration programs. He has recently been involved in programs to build tech skills among women in Kibera slums. Since becoming a Stara Peace Women Organisation board member in 2016, Mr. Josiah has helped the organization to implement various impactful sanitation projects including the Stara Biogas Project and the use of portable toilets to curb open defecation.

Mr. Suleiman Abubakar is a Muslim religious leader and a senior elder among the Nubian community in Kibra slum. He has been a Stara Peace Women Organization since 2004 and his input as a member of the marginalized Muslims and Nubian community has helped the organization to implement several programs aimed at improving inclusivity among its beneficiaries.

Mr. Suleiman Abubakar is a Muslim religious leader and a senior elder among the Nubian community in Kibra slum. Mr. Benjamin Wambua is a certified public Accountant who is currently serving as the first County Coordinator for the National Government Affirmative Action Fund Makueni under the Ministry of Gender and Affirmative Action.He has participated in drafting and developing national government affirmative action fund strategic plan 2017-2022 under the supervision of Kenya School of Government. Mr. Benjamin has a Bachelor Degree in Commerce and a Masters of Art degree in project planning from University of Nairobi. Since becoming a member of the board in 2020, he assists the organization in upholding gender equity and inclusivity in the implementation of its programs.
