ADAM SEBIT

My name is Adam Sebit, I am 17 years old. I joined Stara Rescue Centre and school in 2009 in preschool. In the year 2011 when I was in class one my parents separated due to domestic wrangles. My mother left Kenya for Uganda and took along with her my younger brother. I was left behind with my sister under the care of our father.

Life with a single parent especially a father has not been easy, he has to act both as father and mother. My father lacks a stable job to support us and it is that Stara that came to my rescue and took up the responsibility of educating and feeding me. They cared for me throughout my entire Primary school education and I sat for my KCPE exams in the year 2018 scoring 388marks.

I was awarded a scholarship by SWISS Association ;Donors of Stara Rescue Centre and school for my secondary education. I was admitted at Hospital Hill High School where I am currently in Form 2.

In my future career I want to be a Lawyer so that I can fight for injustices and unfairness in the society and also support needy children in community.

Stara has helped me a lot and is still holding my hand to see me achieve my goals in life”.

NYANDWARO KERUBO VALERIE

“My name is Nyandwaro Kerubo Valerie. I come from a family of 7; I was born and raised in the heart Kibera slum. My growing up has not been easy as my family survives from hand to mouth, our parents do casual jobs which are not always available thus income from this is not enough to cater for our basic needs and even finance our education. I joined Stara Rescue Centre and School from my pre-primary level till when I completed my primary education, Stara made sure that I had all that I needed to pursue my studies comfortably and finally I sat for KCPE in the year in the year 2015 and scored 358 marks emerging second best in Stara school that year.

Stara’s support did not end there as after my KCPE exams through its scholarship programs I got a scholarship for my secondary education and joined Kathiani Girls High School because of this I was able to go through my secondary education smoothly and sat for my KCSE exams in the year 2019 scoring a mean grade of B+ whereby I was second best student.

Currently I am pursuing a Bachelors degree in Clinical Medicine at University of Kabianga, my dream is to pursue my career and finally become an Oncologist so that I can support needy people who are infected or affected by cancer since it is quite expensive for them to afford treatment. Also I will support needy children to achieve their dreams the way Stara did.

My heartfelt gratitude goes to Stara for believing in me and supporting me to achieve my dreams in life. LONG LIVE STARA”.

DAN WEKOYA JOURNEY WITH STARA

“My name is Dan Wekoya, a Kibera resident since birth and also a student at Maseno University studying a Bachelor of business Administration. I went through my primary education at Stara Rescue centre between 2000 and 2012. In this period I benefited a lot from the activities of stara peace women who essentially helped my mom to raise me by donation of clothes, food and books which they gave to me and other pupils from time to time.

After I finished KCPE in 2012 and emerged as the top student at the school, Stara Peace Women helped me to find a sponsor who has been paying my school fees since high school. For these reasons, Stara Peace Women are single handedly responsible for my entire education since pre-school.

As a beneficially of community welfare activities , I intend to give back to the community in whatever ways possible , this is a motivation that pushed me to be among the founding members of the Hatua Youth Organization, an NGO which promotes social welfare by doing school mentorship programmes ,donation of necessities to prisons and children’s home among others.

Once I complete my studies, I plan to have a career that betters the living standards of vulnerable members of our society by use of the knowledge and skills that I have acquired in my life under a scholarship facilitated by Stara.”

ROSEBELLAH IMINZA JOURNEY WITH STARA

ROSEBELLAH IMINZA was born in a family of seven but she was raised by my grandmother at  age of 8years, this is after her parents separated. His father was a drunkard and most of the times after drinking he would turn out to be violent. He neither provided for their basic needs nor even paid their school fees.

Her grandmother was too old and jobless thus she wasn’t in a position to educate her. This poverty situation led to separation among their siblings so her aunt took her in and promised to help her continue with her education, She felt very happy as someone had come to her rescue.

She took her to school for one term but thereafter she started complaining that Rosebella was becoming a burden to her and she wasn’t able to cater for her needs considering that she had her own children to take care of. This caused Rosebella to drop out of school to help her with some chores, life became difficult and she lost hope in her dream of becoming a lawyer.

After a while her cousin who lives in Nairobi came and took her promising to educate her, She moved to Nairobi and joined a nearby school for one year. Suddenly things changed the Aunt started mistreating her to do the entire house work including selling groceries in a small shop. She used to call her names with a lot of abuses. She could send her to the shop in the middle of the night. Neighbors used to see this mistreatment and they tried to intervene by talking to her but she said she was at fault. One night she told her to look for another place to stay as they were moving to another place and couldn’t live with her anymore; that same night she was send   to go look for eggs, It  was already late and some of the shops were closed after coming back she found her  belongings thrown out and the house  empty with no one to inside.

She had nowhere to go and started wandering in the streets but fortunately a stranger took her in and offered her a place to sleep that night. The next day she took her to a police station where she narrated her story and recorded a statement and was taken to MACODEP children’s home who brought her to Stara Rescue Centre and School.

At Stara she found a new home which everyone understood her and was able to complete her primary education. Stara through Swiss Association awarded her scholarship to high school and as at now is in good Provision high school in form three. She is working hard to achieve her dream in life of becoming a lawyer and fight for the rights of neglected children and make sure those mistreat them are held accountable.

She is really grateful and indebted to Stara for this success journey.
